About
About Crew Rights Compass
Know your rights. Organise your records. Find the right help.
Crew Rights Compass publishes independent educational resources and links to official careers and support information. We do not provide legal representation, recruitment placement or emergency assistance. Your rights and options depend on the applicable law, contract and circumstances. For a personal situation or deadline, contact an appropriate qualified adviser promptly.
Who it is for
Working and aspiring crew on cruise ships and other vessels, across hotel, culinary, entertainment, concession, deck, engine and medical departments, and the families who support them. Officers and ratings, cadets and old hands: if you sign on, this is for you. See crew life by department.

The author
The guides and articles are written by Dr. Ezekiel Aluda Osolika, a Kenyan physician with shipboard, expedition, emergency and aeromedical experience. His experience is medical and practical; he is not a lawyer and does not give legal advice. Where a topic needs legal judgement, we say so and point to qualified help.
Independent maritime legal review of the guides has not yet been completed. When a qualified reviewer has reviewed specific content, we will name them, their role and jurisdiction, and the date of the review on that content. Until then, no reviewer is claimed.
What we are not
- We are not a cruise line, employer or recruitment agency. We do not accept CVs, arrange jobs or charge candidates anything.
- We are not a law firm, union or regulator. We cannot take on cases or make complaints on your behalf.
- We are not an emergency service. For urgent help, see Get help now.
No employer, union, regulator or support organisation mentioned on this site endorses it. Employer names appear as plain text for identification only.
How we stay independent
The careers directory is free and always will be. Buying a guide is never needed to view the directory, apply for a job or find help. We do not sell influence over our rights and welfare content. Any future paid placement will be clearly labelled Sponsored and kept separate from editorial content. Read our disclosures and editorial policy.
