Privacy notice
Last updated 20 October 2026
This notice explains what information Crew Rights Compass collects through this website, why, and what you can ask us to do. Crew Rights Compass is published by Dr. Ezekiel Aluda Osolika. Questions: ezekiel@theshipdoctor.com.
The short version
- You can read every page, use the directory and download the free checklist without giving us any personal information.
- We do not use analytics, advertising pixels, session recording or tracking cookies.
- The contract questions and pay record tools run only in your browser. What you enter is not sent to us or anyone else.
- If you choose to save resources or remember ticked tasks, a short list of public ids is kept in your own browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
- We do not ask for, and you should not send us, passports, medical records, case documents or details of a legal problem.
What we collect, and why
Website hosting
The site is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify processes technical information such as IP addresses and request details to deliver pages and protect the service. We use this only for operating and securing the website.
Broken-link reports
If you report a broken directory link, we receive the directory entry and link address, and your email address only if you choose to give it. Reports are processed by Netlify Forms, which may also record technical details to filter spam. We use reports to fix links and, if you gave an email, to reply. We aim to delete reports within 90 days of resolving the link.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we receive your address and your message. We use it to reply and keep it for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and keep reasonable business records.
Purchases
The ebooks are sold through Gumroad. When you buy, you give your payment and contact details to Gumroad, not to this website, and Gumroad's privacy policy applies. Gumroad shares with us, as the seller, the order details it provides to sellers, such as your email address, the product bought and the order reference. We use them to deliver support, handle refunds and keep the business records we are required to keep. Selecting a Buy button simply opens Gumroad; this website does not record the click. We will never ask for payment-card details by email.
Saved resources and ticked tasks on your device
Two optional features use your browser's local storage. Save this resource on this device keeps a list of the public pages, tools and directory entries you chose to save (for example tool:pay-record). Remember my ticks on this device on the Before You Join tool keeps which generic tasks you ticked. Nothing is stored unless you choose it; no figures, notes or documents are stored; and nothing is sent to us. Remove it with Clear saved resources, the tool's Start over button, or by clearing this site's data in your browser. It is not an account and does not sync between devices.
Email updates
We do not currently run a mailing list. If we introduce one, signing up will be optional and separate from any free download or purchase, and every message will include a way to unsubscribe.
Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with service providers needed to run the site (currently Netlify), or where required by law.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you by emailing ezekiel@theshipdoctor.com. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under local data-protection law, including the right to complain to a supervisory authority.
Changes
We will update this notice before introducing any new kind of data collection, such as a mailing list or analytics, and change the date above.
